This Site
As so succinctly described on the welcome page, this is a site for showcasing things that I’ve made (in addition to the fruits of my digital hoarder tendencies). Being able to direct link to a piece of writing rather than digging up a Google doc every time I want to show someone my Frasier drinking game is one motivation, but really the most important aspect of this is that I’m allowing myself to be vulnerable by sharing things I’ve made with my name attached to it (see: Leise St. Clair). Also if I didn’t finish the site by January 15th then I’d lose a thousand dollars.
The name Syncing Ship was chosen because I'd registered syncingship.com over a year ago with no immediate plans to use it and it made more sense than any of the other domains I’ve randomly bought over the years. Finding an icon of a ship in a bottle was what really sold me on using this particular domain name, though. There’s some metaphor in there as well that you can sort out for yourself.
Myself
I’m a designer who lives in sunny Oakland, CA with my two cats and occasionally my brother. Before that I had a long stint in New England followed by a short stint in the Pacific Northwest, and my nostalgia for each place is proportional to the amount of time I’ve spent there.
I like to make lists and collect data. Last year I tracked how often I floss my teeth and being able to say that I flossed at least six days out of the week 88% of the time over the span of 12 months is immensely satisfying. (This isn't meant to be a humble brag about my better than average oral hygiene habits, it's just a regular brag.)
My Wikipedia contribution history is a great source of pride and serves as a record of all the strange corners of Wikipedia that I’ve found myself in and then found formatting errors.
Sometimes my jaw clicks while I’m chewing food and for a brief moment I'm forced to contemplate my own mortality.
If you’re reading this and enjoyed (or didn’t enjoy) it then feel free to let me know. Or don't. It's really none of my business.
